I have three weeks to travel, I am wanting to go to Mexico and Costa Rica, and I'm really tired of flying... Does anyone have any suggestions of alternate ways to get there? Trains, busses, boats....? Whats cheapest, most reliable, safest, easiest, fastest, most exciting... etc? Any suggestions, opinions? Or should I just bite the bullet and fly again?

I have looked into this recently- you can book rountrip tix on Greyhound through to Mexico City for about $500.

Alternatley, go to megabus.com and bus down to San Diego ( or Greyhound or Amtrack), cross the border and take a bus from there- some judicious web surfing will get you some info- and also a website that I haven't used that said it will book tickets and has lots of links.

Or Bus down to La Paz and cross over on the three times per week ferry.

Just so folks know I have found great deals on Mexico City flight through Cabo San Lucas airport- like a week on the beach and then a week on a pyramid for $400 bux.

Or you could get a one way cruise (is that possible?) down to Mazatlan or Acapulco and bus it from there.
