  • It is such a shame that our train system in the US is so disorganized and expensive . I use to take the train all the time when I lived in Spain. I preferred it. When I didn't take the train I biked. Here in the US it is so expensive and difficult to use. It is really a shame.

I have this ambition that some day will hop a freight train just for the experience. I love Cabooses and the only place that I have found that you can still go inside one on display is at the Talooga Gorge in GA. There are several in the US that are preserved but they are closed exhibits. It is a shamethat you can't still ride on one.

In fact I feel that the transit system should inter connect nationwide and be almost free to take. We are trying to become a Greener Nation and I have invested a great deal of time into setting up an organic garden establishing a self watering system of rain barrels, I have replaced my high energy cost appliances and now have a tankless water heater. I am teaching my daughter the importance of being green and have always volunteered in my community and picked up trash whenever I see it.

The only real non-green thing I have is my Dodge Ram long bed pick-up and since the majority of energy spent on an automobile is spent in the process of making it I do not consider it an enviromentally sound idea to buy a new car when my truck works well. I have put over 200,000 miles on every vehicle I have ever owned. I also often help transport blocks, sand and gravel and other things for neighbors and friends trying to be greener.

I have reduced my elecric bills by 2/3rd's to less than $90 per month and my water bills and natural gas bills are at the minimum charge. I am honestly trying to put a full effort into establishing as green a lifestyle as possible.

Europe is vastly ahead of us in mass transit. We need to take a cue from our Europeon brothers and get onboard.

Our bus system also is unbelievanly disorganized. I would take the bus but what takes me less than 10 minutes to drive takes me over an hour by bus and round trip is almost 3 hours. Ridiculous!

I would also Bike more often but after traveling the US I can honestly comment that their are two US cities that got their act together where it is safe and easy to Bike . Portland Oregan and Butte Montana. Everywhere else I found at least several miles that were dangerous to ride. I actually saw the US when i drove trucks and there was nothing better than biking through parts of the Columbia Gorge and I still plan on going back to San Francisco and biking the Golden Gate. Biking around any city or major suburb should be the easiest thing in the world to do. Most places do not even have a rack to put it on if you choose to take the risk and even try to do it.

Nonetheless, as gas/desel prices are ridiculously inflated by greedy oil companies and we are moving towards a horrific time of economical shock in the US. It is time to get our transit systems up to par and to bring the cost down to a token. As far as I am concerned it we are truly concerned about the enviroment than our massive transit system should cxost less than $50 for a train ride from New York to Miami. Otherwise we are simply lip singing.
