South American Volunteer Opportunities

topic posted Thu, January 24, 2008 - 11:47 AM by  offlineDeez
My wife and I are getting ready for our trip abroad. We're not sure of our initial destination--either Oaxaca, Mexico and then a long slow crawl down to South America or a flight straight to Colombia or Venezuela or Peru. We'll be on the road for a year, hopefully more. We're season travelers.

Along the way, we want to volunteer--orphanages, teaching english...whatever.

Does anyone have personal experience with volunteering in S. America?

How about work opportunities?

Thanks

yah there is alot of volunteer work available.

i suggest checking waiting till you get there before commiting to anything, thought cuz there are so many other opportunities available than are advertised on the internet.

one thing oyu can volunteer is to teach english in exchange for a place to live. if you meet a nice family, they will likely take you in.

there is much help needed in small villages, too.

i volunteered on an organic farm in peru and only had to pay $30 a week for food and learned alot about permaculture. the only thing was, i ended up babysitting alot, which i wasn't too happy about.

but if you go there and make friends, people might just ask you to help them and you can work out your own deal.

    good luck.
